So I was thinking about internet meme’s today. Now for you non-nerdy folks these are simple things that become a web sensation suddenly, kind of what a one hit wonder is for radio… they are catchy and funny at first but soon you are worn out of seeing them as they become overblown only to die out and fade into oblivion. Past internet meme’s of fame include; All your base are belong to us, LOLcats, ORly Owl, The Numa Numa Guy, Leroy Jenkins and Chuck Norris Jokes to name a few.
So here are my predictions of random things that could become the next internet meme
1. Robots, heck we have had ninjas vs pirates and the THIS IS SPARTAAAAA meme’s in the past why not something involving robots, lots of great robots to choose from and with a second transformers movie coming out this summer what’s to stop it?
2. Clowns, sure a lot of people are afraid of clowns, but like I said with #1 it would be easy to do something like the ninja vs pirates them? Clowns vs Robots who knows. I just think it could happen easily.
3. Johnny Depp in Alice and Wonderland… the movie comes out Spring of 2010 so it’s a ways down the road but you know with him playing the Mad Hatter, he is bound to do something in the movie that could easily become a web sensation when you think of some of the other roles he has played. Actually I could see the trailer for the movie being crazy enough to be a web sensation in itself.
4. Hamsters – We have had LOLcats, ORly Owls, a walrus with a bucket, the dramatic prarie dog, and even a bunny with a pancake on its head… safe betting on animals to become a meme at some point in time so I’m going to go out on a limb and predict a hedgehog.
5. Carmen Sandiago - nostalgia plays a big roll in some of these meme getting started, and since I grew up in the generation where most of these memes are being thought up and promoted from I’ll go with a child hood favorite game that we can all relate too… no not the Oregon trail, but Carman Sandiago
6. Cowboys, kind of goes along with the choices of robots and clowns from earlier but I think the movie Broke-Back Mountain killed the hopes of a cowboy craze for a little while, it’s been a couple years but still too easy to slide in gay jokes.
