Day 13

A favorite memory a song inspires

I'm going to go with a song from last Feburary... "What the Hell" by Avril Lavigne... this song was playing a lot when Erin and I started dating.. and it reminded me of her a lot. Avril is one of her favorite musical artist (probably #2 behind Five for Fighting) and it seemed like this song would be the first thing I'd hear on the radio on the way home from her house. So it always just reminds me of her whenever I hear it and those first couple months of us dating :)

Day 12

One of your favorite songs
Well on series with the question favorite song I normally go with Hotel California by the Eagles, but since this isn't limited to my favorite I figure I will mix it up a bit and go with something different. How about "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons

Its the second most played song on my Zune player right now (Sail by Awolnation holds the number one spot).

Was playing in my car last night as I pulled into the driveway on my way home from Erin's. She posted a link to a Pink Spiders song on her facebook last week and I have been listening to them a lot this week. I have them in my music library because of Steve. We were sitting at the truckstop one night maybe a year and a half ago (wow been a long time), and he was talking about them so I got some of their music but never listened to them that much until recently.

Thoughts - Celtic Fiddle

Day 31

Last day in the series!

Today I went to a concert held by the Decatur County Historical Society and the Greensburg Public Library as part of their "5th Sunday Musicals" series. This was the first one I went to, (There was one in January but I didn't attend) and had to introduce the artist, Emily Ann Thompson, as well as make sure she got her paycheck.

Overall the music was good, not something I'd normally listen too but it definitely did make you think of Ireland and Scotland as well as her playing some Canadian music (sorry Canada other than O'Canada I can't think of any music that makes me think of you, and she didn't play O'Canada). My only complaint is she made funny faces as she was playing, but that was because she was concentrating so hard on the music. She also tapped/stomped to go along with the music, which I imagine to be very difficult to do while playing the fiddle, as well as playing a piece on the piano and banjo.

She was classically trained in violin and while I liked the Celtic music, I think I would have preferred some classical pieces.

It was a nice performance for Decatur County though in an effort to help broaden the culture of the county.

November Thoughts - The Eagles

• Nov 24

So I was talking with a good friend that goes way back about the bad "The Eagles" today. You know how some songs always make you think of a certain person or event? Well I can't listen to the Eagles without thinking of driving around in my Monte Carlo back in high school. I had the Eagles Greatest hits and I think we seriously listened to that song every day while crusin around after school. Makes me think of rolling down 421 before the Honda plant with my hand out my window. Good times.

It was and still is mandatory for everyone in my car to sing along with Hotel California whenever it comes on. (One of a select few songs like that including Don't Stop Believing by Journey, Come Sail away by Styx and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen). I have other songs that I associate with people and events I think everyone does, but that entire band I associate with fall-spring 2003-2004.

Closet thing to it is associating Jimmy Buffet with my Dad as he used to have a ton of his cassettes that we would listen to in his truck when I was little.
