Are we risking our lives for science?
So I read this news article today:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_sci_big_bang_machine
It is about how Scientist are getting ready to test out the Large Hadron Collider again, after spending over a year fixing it from the last time they tried to use it. (Yes they have spent over $10 billion dollars on this thing and new really got it to work yet, surprisingly this is European funded and not a waste of our money.) Of Course we here in the US were going to build a bigger one in Texas but canceled the funding in 1993 when we realized it might not be of that much scientific value… or maybe kill us all?
Anyway I know Cracked.com did a report once about how it could be one of the most dangerous tools in science, If I find the article I’ll link it here later, but I want you to just think about this for a minute… The goal is to recreate the circumstances in which the big bang occurred. You know.. the big bang, what they think was the cause of the whole universe… Anyone else find this a little more dangerous than what its worth?
The idea is for this to be a controlled experiment that will probably take place in January of 2010.
Or maybe this is what the Mayan people where talking about in 2012???

November Thoughts - Clouds
So did anyone know we gained a new type of cloud this year? The "Asperatus" cloud, it is a low lying cloud that looks like a "choppy sea from below". I came across this article today describing the new type of cloud formation that has been seen around the globe (one scientist has been studying it for 30 years) but is now just finally being named.
What I find interesting is that it just finally became a cloud type. I remember in elementary school we were taught there were four types of cloud, I wonder if all the science books will now be updated for this new type? Apparently this announcement was made in June to little fanfare so I'm doubting it. I'd say it would be safe to say modern day meteorology has been in practice for one hundred years, but humans have been studying the skies since the beginning of recorded history. So why did it take this long for a new cloud type?
Honestly I searched for that answer and came up empty, seems like it just takes the right person noticing and putting the time in to build a case a petition the UN meteorically society. That person would be the founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society. (Won't you all sleep better tonight knowing that we have people who appreciate the clouds for us!) It has been 58 years since out last new cloud type the cirrus intortus, so I doubt I will see another new cloud typed added in my life time... So everyone remember 2009 as the year of the cloud.
Also even though it looks nasty, they rarely lead to storms.

Apr. 29th - Handwriting
Day 29
Ok so this is my handwriting analysis creativity post, I've been interested in this for a little while so I decided to get a couple books from the library and try to see what I could do… So obviously this makes me in no way an expert :P especially since the books I found don't seem to be that informative. But I'm going to take a stab at it anyway. I've got 2 samples to work with, my own and Megan's who was awesome enough to help me out with this :D
Oh the stupid little phrase we both wrote was from something I found that said it made a good sample, I think it's because it uses all the letters in the alphabet.
One last note before we start, is that a lot of handwriting tells about someone's mood, and peoples moods can change from time to time, so some of the stuff I try to point out might be variable for people at different times.
Dustin's sample –

This writing suggests I'm a stingy person who sees the world close at hand because of how small I write.
The very slight uphill writing I have going suggest I'm more optimistic than pessimistic, but I'm not overly optimistic.
I tend to be more narrow minded, by the way I make the loops on my e's tight and constricted
A careful selection of people who get to know me based on my slender lower loops
I have a since of dignity based on how my t lines stay together
Rarely seek attention
I don't openly show my since of humor that often
I'm not sensitive to criticism, feelings aren't easily hurt
Confident in myself and don't worry about things
Megan's Sample

Her writing doesn't suggest a lot of spiritual or philosophical thinking
It appears that Megan doesn't have a lot of desire to do physically active things
Selective in who she chooses as friends based on the fact the lower loops of letters like y are closed before returning to the base line.
She has a since of dignity based on how her t lines stay together
She is Confident in her self
Sometimes she actively seeks attention, other times not
So that's about all I'm comfortable saying from what I have found, I don't agree with all of the stuff I think the fact I don't write in cursive that often plays a big role in it, and I don't think Megan writes in cursive that often either because of the way half of her letters are in cursive and some not :P Also I think If I used a sample that I wasn't thinking about my writing it would be a little different but it's like impossible not think about it when you know you are writing it for this. But since I never write in cursive I didn't have much an option….
