July 2011 review

So July is over, wow seems like summer is going fast! But I guess we say that every year, though I will admit it seems like I haven't accomplished much this summer. Last summer I was unemployed and enjoyed a relaxing summer going on walks and playing video games, I need to walk to Adams one day in August just for old times sake I guess, or even just go driving around one night... I haven't done that in forever.

This month was good though, at the start Erin's family visited and we hung out with them for her birthday week.

The next week was the fair, and all of those small town festivities that go along with it... stuff us simple Decatur County folks enjoy.

Baling Hay took up some time this month.

Went to the Drive-in Movie theatre for the first time.

Went Canoeing with some friends.

So it was plenty eventful I guess...

I don't have a book list this month because well... didn't read any... I started "The Bells of San Juan" and need to get back to reading it... hasn't done much to interest me yet.

I guess I feel like I need to be accomplishing more, I just need to figure out where/what I want to accomplish these things.... I haven't done a good job getting to the gym, so I need to improve that. I think I need to intellectually do something challenging and force myself to stick to it... Erin is going back to school and so is Steve and I guess maybe I feel like I haven't done anything that was intellectually challenging since college.

Erin and I have even discussed me going back to school, which would kind of be fun, I just have to think about it a lot and get the whole money thing figured out as to if I want to really do it. Its a scary proposition and well I feel like if I go back to school its like saying I wasted several years of my life. I think that is the biggest hold up, the fact I'd be saying I wasted a couple years getting my History Degree, so it'd be admitting a failure that I don't think I want to admit yet.

I've finished my blog series this month, but again I hated it about half way through... I haven't decided what I'm going to do for August... I don't think I'll do an everyday series, maybe a once a week deal on a bigger topic or theme? I'd like to even do maybe a discussion/debate series sometime, but that would take a lot of planning. Anyway don't plan on seeing an everyday post in August like you did this month, sometimes the everyday thing just burns  me out.

Well overall the month has been good, so hopefully everything was well for all of you readers as well.

May happenings

So May blog wise pretty much got filled up by the May Music blog series I was doing, so I wanted to just do a quick recap of some of the major events that happened. During the month...

Jude's Birthday -

The first of the three birthday get togethers I went to this month was for Erin's dog Jude who celebrated her 3rd birthday. I brought a gift of some dog treats and went to celebrate with Erin, her grandparents, and their other dogs. (several pictures previously posted in a blog on the subject)

Casey's Birthday -

Casey turned 23 on May 6th, we went out to eat at the Nascar grill at the Indiana Live Casino for her birthday. Erin went with us and got to see some horse races for the first time. I got Casey a 24 pack of coke and a 12 pack of vinalla coke for her birthday.

Megan Schwering's Birthday -

Megan had a Birthday party at Joe and Chantel's house on Saturday the 7th. It was going to be a big production with 2 bands and everything but at the last minute got toned down and I was kind of glad that happened really. Bruce, Megan S., Joe, Chantel, Brock, Megan B., Arron, Cassie, Erin and myself all attended. It was an intersting night and was nice to get together with people.

Thor -

Went to see the movie Thor with Bruce, Megan and Erin one night. Bruce and Erin really liked it while Megan and myself weren't as impressed. (note I didn't think it was a bad movie, just wasn't as good as I was hoping) after that we went out to eat at Buffal Wild Wings. It was a fun night.

Counting Steps -

My Aunt Pam's school was having a step/walking challenge and she asked Casey and I to carry a pedometer in place of a couple of the teachers at school, and that we would get the prize if our team reached the goal. We were on teams of 5 and had to get 1,000,000 steps per team to earn a 25 dollar check. I ended up scoring over 400,000 steps for my team and will be getting a prize check. Though Erin does think it's silly that I wear the thing. I'm going to keep wearing it the summer because if I walk 500 miles as an individual I will get another $25 dollars.

D&D -

Got in a game of D&D, saddly only one thus far, with Brock, Erin, Bruce, and Joe. It was my first time running a game as a DM and I think it went fairly smooth. It was nice getting a game in since it has been since last September that we played. I enjoy D&D its just so hard to get everyone together for a session it seems. Anyway it was nice to get some ideas and creativity flowing.

Cemetary -

Went to put flowers on the graves of some ancestors for Memorial day with Dad, Pam, and Grandma down in Brookville and Harrison. Its nice to look back at the family history every once in awhile and this is a nice family tradition of sorts.

Storm -

As I dedicated a blog to in May we had a major storm hit Decatur County, at home we didn't have any real damage other than being without power for 60 hours. At the museum where I work we lost 8 windows to the hail. I'll refrain from saying much else since I have already covered it in a full blog.

Predator -

Brock moved into an apartment next door to his Mom's house and on memorial day weekend had what I guess you could call a house warming party of sorts. Brock, Bruce, Joe, Erin, Casey, Bruce, Chantel, and I all got together to watch Predator and Predator two on Blu-Ray.

Well i doubt anyone was that intersted in what I did last month, but if you were there is a quick run down of my life! Since I'm not doing a full blog series this month maybe I'll keep up posting the events that are happening/have happened in my life.

November Recap / December Preview

November Recap – December Preview

100 Things About Me:

Completely finished this mini-challenge in a series of 7 posts spread throughout the month, this was a fun little challenge and for the most part was pretty easy. I worked at it over time plugging in new facts every couple days until I reached the end. It was actually easier than I first imagined it would be. Of course I also had the two side spin-off’s 100 things about Megan and 50 things about Emily. Those were more difficult but really not that hard in the long run. (Just don’t ask me to name too many more things about those gals)

Other Post:

I’m also glad I was able to get in a few other post this month on things I had been planning on talking about; The Monte, Unemployment, and then a tribute to Black Friday.

I also got several old blog series uploaded; Summer Six Pack (June 2009), Are you Pondering (January 2009), April Creativity Challenge (April 2008).

December Plans:

Well I’ve got a few ideas in the works for December, it’s the end of a decade… and well a pretty big decade of my life, through ages 16-25 so I’ve sort of got an idea for a quick/simple decade in review blog which just gives a few thoughts/ideas/feelings/memories of things that happened each year in my life of this decade. You can look for these posts every 3 days in December.

The second thing I have planned for this month is just a simple Year in Review look back, I didn’t blog much in the first half of this year so this will hopefully introduce some new pictures and things that I did earlier this year and never got written down/shown. That said it will just be a brief overview of the year. I plan on releasing this in a series of 4 posts (3 month each), on Wednesday’s starting on the 8th.

I have to go to a training class for my job for one week in December so that may or may not hamper the above projects, but I will try to get them all put together on schedule.

Also when it comes to uploading old series… I plan on focusing on all of my Howie photo blogs as my number one task this month.

Further in the Future:

I’ve been feeling the urge to do something creative/artistic for a blog series, but for those who know me, you know I’m not artistic. So I don’t know where this will lead yet…. But I really want to do something either artistic or literary for a blog series soon… so maybe January or February at the latest, or so I hope.

October Review / November Preview

Experience List Recap:

Well the series is finally finished; I enjoyed doing this blog series. As with all of my series I started out strong thinking it would be easy to come up with enough ideas to knock this out smoothly all month. However, after about 10 days in I started having to think about what I really would want to experience. To be honest I really wanted to put more detail into some of the post, such as the Blimp or Secret Society but time constraints caught up with me so hopefully I’ll find time to revisit those ideas in a future blog. The only day looking back that I would change or redo would be Oct. 20th, developing an eccentric trait… I don’t know if that is really that great of a thing… but I was out of ideas and running out of time to post for that day. So yeah that is the one I would change.

November:

So what does November have in store? Not a full-fledged Blog Series, I have a few topics I plan on posting on as well as possibly doing a mini-series of 100 things about me. (Possibly broken into 4-5 post). So probably just a post or two a week for November instead of everyday, then hopefully I’ll come up with a new blog series idea for December.
